Cursive - I Couldn’t Love You

Have you ever been cleaning or organizing and ran into some old birthday cards or letters you received over the years from people you would say you were in a destructive relationship with. You probably even forgot that these had been stashed in that old sock drawer or wherever you like to hide shit away. Maybe you just aren’t the sentimental type and you just trashed them the day you got them. However if you did do that, maybe you were right. Maybe you are the one who saved yourself here. Well in any case I find it crazy to go back and read some of the stuff this person has written after you went to hell and back with them and around and over again. You read these things that so and so wrote and you are just blown away by how sweet they once were and were able to be when you were left with the bitter thought of misery in the ending days. You would think how could something so evil ever have been created and then you are sitting here reading how much this person cares about you and on and on and on and on. Every sentence on this note/letter/card leads to another sentence as sweet as the last. It’s actually kind of sad in a way cause it just shows you how much people can change over time. Someone who used to mean the world to you may now be a complete stranger who will never really have much to do with your life again. This person who used to pour their heart out onto you while watching crappy t.v is now just as important as the stranger you walk by on the city street. Those days when you thought your world was going to implode and that the grass was never going to turn green again have now been mowed over many a season and you’ve got the greenest lawn in town. It is just amazing to me how someone who touched your life at some point and made some sort of impact on it will really never mean anything to you again. Come and gone like smoke into the wind this person is gone and over however much time you just really start to forget. Then one day you are in a hurry looking for that matching sock in the bottom of the drawer and you stumble upon “Happy whatever year Birthday” and you take a second to read it and can’t help but think what your life would be like had you still been getting those cards today.
